Summer Edit: Marrakesh

Easily one of Morocco's most beautiful and fascinating cities, no trip to Northern Africa is complete without checking out Marrakech. This 1000-year-old city is home to a thriving medina, fantastic shopping, and some of the most gorgeous architecture you’ll find anywhere in the world. Marrakech is also famous for its beautiful riads (guesthouses often converted from family homes), and you’ll find excellent little boutique riads dotting winding streets all over the city.

This ancient trading city at the foot of the Atlas Mountains is a welter of sights, smells, and sounds. Motor scooters compete for space with donkey carts carrying fruits and vegetables. Chic spas and restaurants shoulder up against traditional riads and stalls where merchants sell everything under the sun. The city's cramped medieval streets defy the best GPS systems. In Marrakech, old and new crash together in a delirious tumult, one that never fails to delight and surprise visitors.

Le Jardin Majorelle

French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé bought Jardin Majorelle in 1980 to preserve the vision of its original owner, French landscape painter Jacques Majorelle, and keep it open to the public.

The garden, started in 1924, contains a psychedelic desert mirage of 300 plant species from five continents. At its heart lies Majorelle's electric-blue art deco studio, home to the Musée Berbère, which showcases the rich panorama of Morocco's indigenous inhabitants through displays of some 600 artifacts
